Event Schedule & Details
2005 Catalina Rendezvous on San Francisco Bay
Summary
Boats can arrive at Ayala Cove as early as they like, but we suggest no later than Noon on Saturday. We are seeking volunteers who will arrive Thursday and Friday to secure mooring balls, and establish the rafts by boat models. Monitor Channel 68 and hail “All Catalina Group;” we will help direct you to your raft generally by boat size, but you can also look for the Fleet Banners and Burgees. As a courtesy please have clean fenders.
Dinghies will be available for mooring assistance, and shuttling to the island. Please let us know if you can help those without dinghies to get to shore. If you have a dink, please bring it.
The major party & BBQ event begins mid day Saturday on Angel Island. Sunday is for relaxing, but we have arranged for a guided tour of the Island's Historical Sites, for Sunday afternoon. We will work out the logistics when we have a headcount of participants. Tour Sign-Up
Rafting Procedures & Etiquette
We raft with all the boats facing in the same direction. Please have clean fenders, or bring some fresh fender covers. Since people will be crossing your boat from time to time, please secure your rigging and gear to prevent tangling and tripping. It is courteous to cross a boat at the bow, unless the owner requests that you cross at the cockpit. Please knock and announce yourself before visiting a cockpit or companionway.
Bring lots of lines, and long lines if you have them; periodically we will need long lines to secure the rafts from swinging too much. Generally you will tie-off bow and stern and run spring lines in both directions. It is critical that you stagger your spreaders. Since we are rafting together with the same model of boat, this means staggering the boats by adjusting the spring lines; to keep the rafts straight, we should alternate the staggering of the boats. After you have tied off, you should quickly set-up your boat to accept the next boat coming in.
Set out at least two or three fenders at the widest part of your boat, your fenders will be tied higher than at the dock, as the boat tying to you will generally be the same height as your boat, and widest near the deck. Be prepared to throw or catch bow and stern lines. It never hurts to have a few extra bodies to fend off and adjust the boats. Each Captain may have a slightly different approach to the same end-result; please follow the directions of the boat which is already in the raft.
